Sanctorum Meritis (Hymn from the Common of Many Martyrs)
Liturgy of the HoursMartyrsCommunion of Saints
The merits of the Saints,
Blessed for evermore,
Their love that never faints,
The toils they bravely bore—
For these the Church today
Pours forth her joyous lay—
These victors win the noblest bay.
They, whom this world of ill,
While it yet held, abhorr'd;
Its withering flowers that still
They spurn'd for Christ the Lord—
Theirs is the Master's eye,
And theirs the crown on high:
For Him they fear'd not here to die.
Give ear to our request,
Most gracious Redeemer, now;
And on Thy servants blest
Pardon and peace bestow,
While in Thy Martyrs' praise
Our grateful voice we raise
Now and through everlasting days. Amen.
