Deus Tuorum Militum (Hymn from the Common of One Martyr)
Liturgy of the HoursMartyrsPerseverance
O Thou, of all Thy warriors, Lord,
The portion, crown, and sure reward:
From all our sins set free our heart,
While we Thy Martyr's praise impart.
He, wisely spurning all the joys
Of earth as flat and bitter toys,
And stained with noble blood, at last
To heavenly joys in triumph passed.
Manfully he the pains endured,
And so the Martyr's palm secured;
Confessing Thee with latest breath,
And triumphing for Thee in death.
We therefore pray Thee, full of love,
Regard us from Thy throne above;
On this Thy Martyr's triumph-day,
Wash every stain of sin away. Amen.
