Daily Prayer of St. Thomas Aquinas for a Holy Life (Concede Mihi, Misericors Deus)

Divine WillSt. Thomas AquinasHolinessDaily Prayer
Grant me, O merciful God, ardently to desire, prudently to search out, truthfully to acknowledge, and perfectly to fulfill those things that are pleasing to Thee, to the praise and glory of Thy Name. Order my state of life, O my God, and grant that I may know what Thou requirest me to do; and bestow on me to fulfill it as I ought, and as is expedient for the salvation of my soul. Grant, O Lord my God, that I may not fail either in prosperity or adversity, so that I be not exalted in the one nor dejected in the other. Let me neither rejoice nor grieve at anything save what leads to Thee or leads away from Thee. Let me desire to please no one and fear to displease no one save Thee. Let all transitory things grow vile to me, O Lord, and let all that is Thine be dear to me, and Thou, O my God, above all things. Give me, O Lord God, a watchful heart, which no curious thought can lure away from Thee; a noble heart, which no unworthy affection can draw downward to the earth; an upright heart, which no sinister intention can warp aside; an unconquered heart, which no tribulation can crush; and a free heart, which no perverted affection can claim for its own. Bestow on me, O Lord my God, understanding to know Thee, diligence to seek Thee, wisdom to find Thee, a life that may please Thee, perseverance that may faithfully wait for Thee, and confidence that may finally embrace Thee. Amen.
