Saint Martin de Porres Novena
A nine-day devotion addressed specifically to Saint Martin de Porres, the Dominican lay brother of Lima known for humility and care of the sick and poor. The daily prayer comes from a traditional Afro-Peruvian devotional prayer recorded in the Peruvian Ministry of Education’s collection of oral literature. The English here is a new translation of that recorded Spanish text, not the separately published Dominican Friars’ modern nine-day prayer book. The one historical prayer is repeated daily, while the nine headings reflect widely documented themes in Saint Martin’s life. November 3 is his feast, preceded by October 25–November 2.
